Anesthesia Group
Interviews with cosmetic surgery patients indicate that it is common to have concerns about pain and about anesthesia risks and side effects. Dr. Metzner is sensitive to these worries, and wants you to have the following reassuring information.
First, we want to introduce our anesthesia staff. All are medical doctors who specialize in providing anesthesia care.
We have anesthesiologists trained at Ivy League Universities and all are certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Together, they have over 65 years of experience with all types of surgical patients. They are completely committed to providing you with a safe, comfortable and effective anesthesia experience.
Most of Dr. Metzner’s procedures are performed under general anesthesia for the following reasons:
- General anesthesia assures a pain- free experience.
- Airway control with a breathing tube is safer than heavy sedation without airway control. It allows the delivery of 100% oxygen to your lungs, which is five times the concentration of oxygen in regular air.
- Anti-nausea medications and procedures minimize anesthesia side effects.
- Because you are not experiencing any pain, there is no pressure to rush through your procedure.
One of the anesthesiologists will meet with you prior to surgery to assess your medical history and to answer all your questions. You will also meet the other member of the Anesthesia Care Team. They work together, backed up by state of the art technology, to ensure a successful and safe anesthesia.
Upon completion of the surgery, you will be transferred to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Recovery Room) under the close observation of nurses specifically trained to monitor your progress and to recognize post-operative complications. They even offer personalized nursing outreach postoperatively, with telephone availability as well as a “tucked into bed” phone call the evening following surgery. This level of care and safety is rarely provided in an in-office surgery facility.
Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, its surgery division and anesthesia services, have an excellent record. Our patients rave over the personalized attention they have received. Please feel free to ask us any questions and express any concerns you have. We want you to feel comfortable with your decision to have cosmetic surgery.
